G1000 Ground School Date Set

Superior Flight School will offer the Garmin G1000 Ground class on Saturday, January 17th. You can complete the required G1000 Written Quiz during the class while you learn what all those hard keys and soft keys do! Class will start at 10:00am and lasts about 4.5 hours. Course completion will be documented in your logbook. Please contact the flight school to sign up!

Private Pilot Ground School

The new year brings the next Private Pilot Ground School. Classes will start on Monday, January 19 and meet each Monday and Wednesday evening from 6:30pm until 9:00pm through Wednesday, February 25. There will not be a class on Monday, February 2. You can complete all of the ground instruction requirements for the Private Pilot rating and earn the endorsement to take the Private Pilot Written Exam, as well as begin preparation for the Oral Exam part of your checkride. Holiday Turkey Fry Scheduled for December 20th!
We have been receiving many inquiries about the annual Turkey Fry.  We have not forgotten about it, just with all the scheduling issues and closures related to the runway widening project we had to postpone the Turkey fry just a bit.  Now, the runway is finally finished and the holidays are upon us so it is time to mark your calendars for Saturday December 20th.

The day promises to be a lot of fun.  As always, there will be a Moonwalk to keep the kids busy while you visit with your flight school friends. "Uncle Bobby" will be smoking all sorts of tasty meats out on the ramp.  In addition, we will have our signature fried turkies as well. 

If you have never attended one of these events, the best part of the meal is the "Pot Luck" side dishes and desserts everyone brings. IT'S FINALLY OPEN!!!!!!!
After a few delays and even more headaches the runway is finally open for business. Come on out and land on the new wider and smoother surface.

RYY - Runway 9-27 Opening DELAYED
The persistent rain has delayed the planned opening of the runway. Marking and Jointseals can not be completed in this wet weather.

Runway 9-27 is now scheduled to open at 0800 on Wednesday December 3rd, 2008.

The temporary runway 8-26 will remain available during this delay.

Weather, scheduling, and construction progress can all affect the planned schedule. Monitor the "Runway 9-27 Closed until...." NOTAM for the latest information as we approach Wednesday.

RYY - Temporary Runway 8-26
Runway 8-26 will be closed Monday November 24th, Tuesday November 25th and Wednesday November 26th.

Weather, scheduling, and construction progress can all impact the anticipated closure dates.

Check NOTAMs for the latest and most current information.

Overall construction is on schedule. December 1st remains the expected opening date.

McCollum Runway Improvement Update
The Grading Contractor has completed its night-time work. The runway will remain open continuously until the scheduled November 10th through November 30th closure. At 12:01 am local Monday November 10th the runway will be closed and Taxiway A will be used as a temporary runway.

The temporary runway will be 3,700' long by 40' wide and marked as Runway 8-26. The runway will be limited to daytime VFR operations. Aircraft will be limited to local small aircraft weighing 12,500 pounds and less.  There will be no jet operations.

Flight training operations are to be conducted by an instructor and the instructor must perform all take off and landings. Only full stop operations will be permitted. The airport will work to make the temporary runway available as much as possible, but the contractor will have the right to close the temporary runway as work requires. Access to the temporary runway from the south aprons will be very limited. 

Superior has a plan to in place to access the temporary runway.  We anticipate being able to handle the majority of our dual operations from the RYY location.  In addition, Superior Flight School will relocate additional aircraft to the Cherokee County location during the closure to accomodate our rental customers who may otherwise be affected by the airport operating hours and closures.  Please direct any specific questions or concerns to Joe or Bob.
